Imagine two different scenarios.
Scenario #1
You are sitting on a plane. The captain of the plane says: This is your captain speaking. We are going to take off and we are going to fly to Chicago. We have nice weather in front of us and we expect to have a smooth flight. We will arrive in Chicago in two and half hours. Have a nice flight!
Scenario #2
You are sitting on a plane. The captain of the plane says: This is your captain speaking. We are going to take off and we are going to fly for a while. We are going to go a bit to the north, and then maybe to the south. We will fly as long as we have fuel. Then…eventually we are going to land somewhere. Where? We will find out…
On which plane would you like to be?
In order to be successful in our lives we need to know where we are going. In other words, we need to set goals. What is it that we would like to have? What would we like our professional careers to look like? What would we like our relationships to be? Etc. We need to know what our success looks like. We need to be able to imagine it and set goals.
How specific do we make our goals?
That is a very good question. Let me explain. Let’s say you would like to have a sports car. If you truly want to have a specific color, make and model, then you need to include it in the goal. If you just want to have a red sports car, but make and model are secondary, then you just set a goal that you have a red sports car. If you just want a sports car, then your goal would be that you have a sports car. All the variations of the goal are correct. It all depends on what is important to you. Very often when we just make our goal simple, we might find out that the end result is much better than if we included all the details.
We need to make sure that our goals are truly ours!!! They have to be what we truly want. Often, we had goals because someone wanted us to do it. Or it was trendy to do that…or we felt that we should be doing something. The goals HAVE TO BE TRULY YOURS in order to become successful. You might find yourself sitting for the first time and thinking: What is that I WANT? You might want things for yourself or others, but the key question is: What is it that YOU WANT?
Let me give you an example.
One man, an insurance agent, came to me looking for a way to increase his income. He was an agent for a few months and he made only 3 sales. I asked him if he liked what he was doing. He answered that rather do something different and the only reason he was an insurance agent was because his father made lots of money in that profession and both, his father and his wife wanted him to pursue that career. I asked him what he would like to do. He told me that he would like to be a photographer. His dream was to make school pictures. He changed his career and became a photographer, being very happy as he was pursuing what he loves.
To summarize it: Imagine what it is that you want and set your goals. Make sure that your goals are what you really desire and of course…take actions towards them. And… have fun on the way!!!
Have an absolutely magical week, full of LOVE, GRATITUDE and FUN!!!
